Ricardo Carioni to give 2018 Maggie Nally Memorial Lecture
Ricardo Carioni, Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of Nicaragua to the UK and Ireland, is to give this year’s Maggie Nally Memorial Lecture keynote address, Chartered Institute of Public Relations International (CIPR International) announced today. The annual lecture was set up to commemorate the CIPR’s first female president.
Carioni’s address will draw from his extensive experience of the varied landscape of communication in Latin America and the development of the PR industry across the region. It will also offer unique insight into what can be learned from this diverse group of countries and how businesses can communicate effectively within Latin America.
Carioni is key advisor to the Ambassador and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving since May 2016 as Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff and Head of the Economic/Trade, Communications/Press, Culture and Tourism offices, responsible for Public Policy, Political Affairs and Digital Diplomacy. He is also President of the Latin American Group of Permanent Diplomatic Missions to the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization, as well as representative of Nicaragua to the International Coffee Organization and the International Sugar Organization.
In addition, in January 2017, Carioni was elected and is currently Chairman and Director of the LatinAmerican Trade and Investment Association. This is the only association in the UK whose members are Embassies and Trade/Investment agencies of 19 Latin American countries. Carioni is responsible for policy and strategy to promote business, investment and relations between the region's governments and companies.
Ricardo Carioni commented: “Latin America is a region of unfulfilled potential and I look forward to sharing my views on how businesses and organizations elsewhere can tap into that potential by communicating effectively within this diverse range of cultures. I am honored to be speaking at this prestigious event and hope my speech will help to increase communication practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of Latin America and what can be learned from the region.”
Shirley Collyer, Chair of CIPR International, added: “Latin America is a fascinating region that communication professionals across the world can learn a lot from, and Ricardo’s wide experience in the industry will provide invaluable insight. CIPR International is all about breaking down barriers between people, countries and cultures. This must-attend event will be an important milestone in our busy programme.”
The event will take place the evening of 17 May 2018 at One Great George Street (Westminster, London, SW1P 3AA). Further details and tickets are available here.
